‘Hearts and minds’, ‘getting buy in’, ‘being on the same page’... whatever you call it, it’s hard to make something happen if you haven’t got the full buy-in of the people.
How often have you noticed that what people say and what they actually do are different? Frustrating isn’t it.......?
Why does this happen? In our experience it is usually because they haven’t had their needs fully understood, and haven’t been engaged with at the right level with regards to their internal values and beliefs.
At MCW, we spend a lot of time engaging stakeholders on projects that have previously ‘gone wrong’ (see our case studies). We can do this, or of course we can get involved the from the outset to make sure that doesn’t happen... ensuring that we understand what the stakeholders need, what success looks like for them and how best to communicate with them. In our experience engaging at the start leads to project success and stakeholder satisfaction at the end of the project.
What do we do?
It really depends on the individual situation, but we can:
Map current stakeholder awareness, involvement and commitment
Run stakeholder workshops
Engage individual stakeholders
Elicit stakeholder needs (overt and covert)
Brand development and strategy
Create communications pack to engage stakeholders
Run psychometrics for project teams/stakeholders to understand motivations? Gives them common ground and shared experience
